The education at KMH is organised in three cykles, in line with the Bologna agreement for higher educaction in Europe:

  • Undergraduate level (normally three years of full time studies)
  • Graduate level (normally two years of full time studies)
  • Postgraduate (Research) level (normally four years of full time studies)

The Graduate Programmes lead to an M.A. in Music, or an M.A in Music Education.

There are also one or two-year Advanced Postgraduate pro- grammes, normally intended to be taken after a M.A. in Music.

European Credit Transfer System

From 2007 on, KMH will consequently be using the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), in which one term of full time studies counts as 30 ECTS credits (Swedish abbreviation: hp)

Language requirements

Two Masters programmes – the Nordic Master in Folk Music and the Nordic Master in Jazz – are offered only in English. Otherwise, the official language within KMH is Swedish.

For guest- and exchange students, the instructions in the individual lessons can be given in English. In these cases a very good command of English language is required and foreign students must prove knowledge in English together with the application.

For all teachers training programmes, a very good command of the Swedish language is required - also for exchange and guest students.
