Performance – Classical Music: Studies at Edsberg
This profile in classical music, is based on thematic studies, aimed at conferring a deeper understanding of the cultural contexts which the music grew out of.
Common seminar series, theme-based studies and integrated subjects, e.g. music theory and instrumental tuition, are working models employed in this programme, the structure of which gives you a holistic approach to studies and a deeper insight into music, performance and cultural context.
Chamber music bulks large in this profile, equalling individual instrumental tuition in importance. All students take part in chamber orchestra productions.
At least half of the programme consists of obligatory studies of the main subject (main instrument or equivalent) and courses relating to the main instrument, e.g. ensemble playing at your own level or genre-deepening courses.
To these are added obligatory subsidiary subjects, such as music theory, music and society and media courses. The programme includes a 15 ECTS independent assignment in the main subject (a concert or a corresponding artistic performance together with written reflections on music in an artistic perspective).
Elective courses are also included. These can take the form of in-depth studies of the main subject or a broadening of your competence within the framework of available KMH courses. Workshops and seminars led by visiting teachers, both national and international, are organised regularly.
Studies can include main instrument, chamber music, chamber orchestra productions, interpretation seminars, repertoire studies, coaching/rehearsal, string orchestra, contemporary music and extensive concert and touring activities.
This profile is available for piano, violin, viola and cello and for ensembles playing these instruments.
The tuition is located at Edsberg Manor (Edsbergs Slott) in Edsviken, Sollentuna, a 20-minute journey from the centre of Stockholm.
