Violinist Andrej Power, who is studying at the Royal
College of Music in Stockholm, has been named the winner of the
Ljunggrenska Competition for Young Musicians which recently took place in
Gothenburg. The jury's assessment reads:
With masterful artistry, honest musicianship and an outstanding sound he is able to promote the great violin tradition.
During the final round of the tournament he played Cesar Franck's Violin Sonata in A Major, was subject to fierce competition for first place, and then became 100,000 kronor richer. The Ljunggrenska Competition for Young Musicians has taken place annually since 1997. The stated goal is to give young musicians the opportunity to continue their studies, which will also be the case for Andrej. He began studying at KMH when he was only 15, and after a few years abroad, now 23 years old, he is continuing his violin studies here at the advanced postgraduate level (formerly known as the Diploma Programme) under the tutelage of Henryk Kowalski.
One will have the opportunity to hear Andrei Power in only a few weeks when he will play a violin concerto by Haydn as a soloist accompanied by the KMH String Orchestra in a concert at KMH on October 28.
Another KMH student placed nicely in the competition, namely cellist Hans Christian Goldstein who is a visiting student from Norway and is enrolled in the music programme at Edsberg. Hans Kristian won third prize with his performance of Shostakovich's Cello Sonata in D Minor.
