We warmly invite you to join us for an afternoon of exploration and conversation with these two remarkable musicians, who are always seeking something new in their music.

On February 6th, at the Royal College of Music’s Nathan Milstein Hall, you’ll have the chance to experience the meeting of Swedish harpist and jazz vocalist Anna Jalkéus and Latvian countertenor and music producer Shipsea (Jānis Šipkēvics) on stage.

This afternoon concert will captivate anyone curious about exploring a duo as a space for creative experimentation. Focusing on musical experiments, vocal technique exploration, stage collaboration, and joint improvisation—both a cappella and with instruments. Most importantly, it will feature an open dialogue between the musicians and the audience, encouraging participation and discussion.

 

Anna Jalkéus
Harp, vocals

Anna Jalkéus is a Swedish singer, harpist, and composer known as a powerful, creative musician who writes genre-bending music with fearlessness and originality.

Since October 2021 Anna holds down the position as Associate Professor in Jazz Voice at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, as the youngest person to have ever have received that title at the university to date. Anna was a member of the renowned jazz faculty at University of North Texas (UNT) 2017-2019, teaching voice lessons and improvisation as well as directing the award winning UNT Jazz Singers in the fall of 2018.

 

Shipsea (Jānis Šipkēvics)
Voice, piano, looper

Shipsea is a music project founded by singer, songwriter and audio producer Jānis Šipkēvics. Once the top voice of the a cappella group Cosmos, he also co-founded Instrumenti - one of the most successful avant-pop acts in the Baltics, toured extensively and has opened for Björk, Arcade Fire, Whale Watching Tour, Mika, Depeche Mode and others. Jānis has collaborated with Gidon Kremer and the orchestra Kremerata Baltica, shared the stage with Bobby McFerrin and sang at Marina Abramović' long durational performance The Cleaner at the Modern Art Museum in Stockholm.
