Entrance Tests for Tuba
When you apply to the Master's programme in Classical music you need to take an entrance examination test. Here is everything you need to know to complete the tests.

Test 1 – Digital audition
The first test is a digital one, where you are required to submit a performance video and a presentation text. Based on this, a selection is made to determine which applicants will proceed to the next test.
After the application deadline has passed, applicants who have submitted their application at universityadmissions.se External link. will receive instructions via email on how to upload their test to KMH. You are therefore encouraged to prepare Test 1 in advance, before receiving the email.
Performance video
Record videos where you perform the following:
- compulsory piece F tuba, R. Vaughan Williams: Concerto, Movements 1 & 2
- Three orchestral excerpts (C or Bb tuba):
- Wagner (Die Walküre)
- Strauss (Ein Heldenleben)
- Prokofiev (Symphony No. 5)
It can be performed with or without accompaniment.
Instructions for the video recording:
For your video to be admissible, you need to
- Provide proof of your identity by showing a photo ID card together with your face in the video. State the name of the piece you will perform and the test code.
- Perform your piece. Your face and your hands must be visible throughout the entire video. It should be easy to see both you and your instrument.
- Each video must be recorded in a single, uninterrupted take. No clips or other edits are allowed.
- It is okay to make your video with a mobile phone, but make sure your setup allows you to record without too much room acoustic, distortion, or noise. All recordings should have good image quality with sharp focus and good light.

If you do not follow these instructions, and we find that your video shows signs of modification, your audition may be disqualified from consideration.
Presentation text
The Master's programme includes an independent artistic project. The sounding part of the project must consist of a public concert, and the written part should be a process description of the work leading up to the concert, including relevant methods for musical interpretation.
- Write a preliminary project idea for the independent artistic work, maximum one A4 page.
- Write a brief CV presenting your education and other relevant activities related to your application, maximum one A4 page.
- Write a repertoire list including the pieces you have prepared for the entrance examination, including any potential second test.
The presentation text must include personal details, the programme, application code, and instrument you are applying for. It should be submitted in PDF format.
Test code: LS 21.1 Major in Classical Music – Step 1
Assessment: The test is qualifying, and the result is evaluated on a pass (1) or fail (0) basis.
Your result will be notified by email. Passing applicants will proceed to the next test.
Test 2 – On-Campus Performance Exam
This audition is conducted on-site on campus.
In advance of the tests, you should prepare
- two compulsory pieces:
- R. Vaughan Williams: Concerto, Movements 1 & 2
- Blazevic: Solo Etude in C
- one piece of your choice
- these orchestral excerpts:
- Wagner (Die Walküre)
- Strauss (Ein Heldenleben)
- Prokofiev (Symphony No. 5)
- Wagner (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg)
- Brahms (Symphony No. 2, Finale)
- Berlioz (Hungarian March)
Print and bring your CV, your repertoire list and your project idea for the master thesis and give it to the jury.
The jury can ask questions about your project idea and have a short conversation with you about your background and your plans in music.

Test time: approx. 15–30 minutes
Assessment: The test is qualifying and a basis for selection. 0-50 p, of which 25 p are required for a pass.
