Degree Concerts in Classical Music

Here you will find frameworks, resources, and procedures for degree concerts at KMH. Please read through this information well in advance to ensure smooth planning.

Venues

  • Kungasalen – approx. 450 seats, our largest hall
  • Nathan Milstein Hall – approx. 90 seats, best suited for acoustic music
  • Lilla salen – approx. 90 seats, best suited for amplified music

Concert duration

Bachelor: 25–30 minutes of music
Master: 40–45 minutes of music

Schedule on the concert day

Please plan so that all setup and teardown fit within these time frames.

1 hour before: stage setup and brief soundcheck (starting points of pieces)
Concert
After the concert: remove everything from the stage that is not needed for the next performance (leave the grand piano on stage)

It is possible to schedule two degree concerts back-to-back with an intermission if the stage setup is similar. In that case, the two students share a total of two hours of preparation time.

Technical requirements and Equipment

  • You are required to prepare a stage plot (a diagram of the stage layout) that will be used throughout the concert. Any movements on stage must be carefully planned in advance without altering the stage plot.A grand piano can be booked if needed and will be placed on stage by KMH staff before the concert.
  • If you require a harpsichord, chamber organ, or other specific instruments, please contact producent@kmh.se.
Other instruments must be arranged by yourself.
  • If you would like printed programme notes, you are responsible for printing them yourself. KMH publishes submitted programme notes (PDF) digitally on the website.
  • If you require amplified sound, this must be indicated already in the autumn.
KMH needs to book a sound engineer to manage the audio, and this must be requested in advance via the form below. It is not possible to add a sound engineer later during the spring.

Sound and lighting

  • Each concert hall is equipped with two microphones for speech, available for self-use. A concert host can assist on site if needed.
  • There are a number of pre-programmed lighting presets to choose from. These are operated during the concert by the concert host.
  • Basic audio recording is made in stereo using ceiling-mounted microphones and, where applicable, from the mixing desk. Copies can be requested via the concert producer at producent@kmh.se.
  • Video recording is not provided by KMH and must be arranged independently.
  • If you wish to use the projector, it is connected via HDMI. You are responsible for playback using your own computer.

In this form, you register your intention to carry out a degree concert during the spring of 2026 as part of the artistic component of the course Independent Project.

Planning your degree concert

Här anger du bland annat önskemål om konsertlokal och hur du planerar att genomföra konserten.

Mandatory component

The degree concert is a mandatory part of the programme. Your supervisor will give final approval once all course components have been completed.

Concert format

You may choose between:

  • a shorter concert without intermission
  • sharing a concert slot with another student

Sharing a concert slot creates a longer, cohesive concert with an intermission, where you share the audience and potentially reach a larger number of listeners.

If many students are scheduled to perform on the same day, there may be two or three concerts in the evening. Time slots for individual concerts are 16:00, 18:00, and 20:00.

Submit the form no later than 14 November 2025

Please submit the form below to pre-register your degree concert. You will receive a confirmation by email once the form has been submitted.
