David Thyrén
David Thyrén, Senior Lecturer in Music and Society at KMH, conducts interdisciplinary research on the historical contexts of music and social sustainability in higher music education.
About the researcher
David Thyrén, Senior Lecturer in Music and Society at KMH, conducts interdisciplinary research in music history, music education, music production, and social sustainability in higher music education. He teaches and supervises students at KMH and other institutions and has previously been a Senior Lecturer in Musicology at Stockholm University.
He serves as Vice Chair of KMH’s Academic Appointments Committee, is a member of the Sustainability Council, and coordinates KMH’s participation in the Nordic Network for Music Education. Additionally, he is active in the Swedish Society for Musicology, MIRAC, and international research networks on music and innovation.
David holds a PhD in Musicology and a Master’s degree in Musicology, History, and English from Stockholm University. His doctoral dissertation examines the Swedish progressive music movement, with a particular focus on the music collectives Uppsala Musikforum and Sprängkullen in Gothenburg.
Research description
Music and society is an interdisciplinary field that connects musicology, artistic practice, music history, music sociology, music education, and music production. It also includes historical perspectives on ethics, aesthetics, music, medicine, and health, explored in the Erasmus+ project ARTHEWE.
David has also contributed to KMH’s knowledge concerts "Blodhov" and "Prelude before Nobel".
