Hans Lindetorp

Hans Lindetorp is a senior lecturer at the Department of Music and Media Production at KMH. He teaches music production with a focus on interactive media and conducts research on how music and technology can interact within this field.

About the researcher

With a background in music education and a strong interest in both people and technology, his experience spans various teaching environments. Since earning his music teaching degree in 1993, he has taught piano and music production at institutions such as Stockholm Music Conservatory, Bromma Folk High School, and KMH. He has also been a guest lecturer at Stockholm University, KTH, Södertörn University, and Linköping University.

He has been involved in a choir initiative that has engaged hundreds of participants over the years, aiming to help inexperienced singers discover the joy of singing and making music together.

For a period, he worked in London developing interactive music education tools for children and young people at a music-tech company, where programming and product design were combined to create innovative learning solutions.

Research description

In 2024, he earned his PhD with the dissertation "Interactive Sound and Music Technology for Everyone: Designing Inclusive Standards for Web Audio Applications." His research is practice-based and explores how music production for interactive media can be made more accessible. By focusing on artistic and educational needs, he has developed technological solutions that promote musical diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.

One of the key outcomes of his research is WebAudioXML (WAXML) – a technology that has been used in approximately 500 student projects, workshops, and lectures to create web-based sound and music applications.

He collaborates closely with the Sound and Music Computing group at KTH and the Web Audio Conference network. Through ongoing research projects, he contributes to creating a more inclusive and accessible environment for the development of audio and music technology.
