
Jan-Olof Gullö
Jan-Olof Gullö is employed as a professor in music and media production at KMH and conducts research mainly in music production and music technology in higher music education.
About the researcher
Since 2018, Jan-Olof has a position as professor in music and media production at KMH. In addition to teaching and research in music production, he is also active as a teacher and leader of courses about
higher education pedagogy at KMH. He has a professional background as a musician (double bass/electric bass), record producer and television producer.
He also holds various collaborative assignments, some of which are:
- board member of MIRAC – Music Focused Interdisciplinary Research and Analysis Center,
- board member of SSES – Swedish Sound Engineers Society,
- member of MEIEA – Music and Entertainment Industry Educators Association,
- member of Rifo – The Society of Members of Parliament and Researchers,
- member of the steering group for the international conference Innovation in Music, which was last organized at KMH in June 2022.
Research description
In his research, Jan-Olof has focused on how music production is shaped by technological innovation, pedagogical strategies, and creative processes, particularly within higher music education. He has also explored artistic practice as a central aspect of the music producer’s work, with particular emphasis on the interplay between technology, aesthetics, and artistic expression.
