New at KMH
Welcome to KMH! We are delighted that you will be studying with us. Here, we summarize the most important information for you as a new student.
Congratulations on your admission! What happens now?
Keep an eye on your inbox – we will send important information via email to you via email approximately two weeks before the start of your course or term.
You will receive information about:
- how to activate your user account
- how to upload a photo that will appear on your access card
- how to approve KMH's contract of liability on personal data and IT usage
- the introduction week for all new students.

Before the semester starts
User account and IT services
Approximately two weeks before the start of the term, you will receive an email with instructions on how to create a user account.
You must create your user account in order to register for your course or programme and thereby secure your place of study.
Once you have created your user account, you will gain access to our systems
Your personal user account includes a student email account: firstname.surname@student.kmh.se
The user account also provides access to several IT services:
- TimeEdit, the room booking system
- Canvas, the learning platform with virtual rooms
- KMH's wireless network
- Helpdesk
- Eduroam, a free wireless network at certain locations outside KMH, such as other universities, train stations, and airports around the world
- Via the library's pages: international media databases, publication of independent work in DiVA.
- Microsoft 365 including Word, OneDrive and Teams.
Photo for access card and email
In the same email where we inform you about your user account, you will also get instructions on how to upload a profile picture. The profile picture will be visible when you send emails to KMH staff and other students. It will also be shown on your access card.
Choose a photo that shows your face and upload it as soon as possible, so we will have time to complete the access card by the time you get here for registration.
Your access card
This card serves as your personal identification card and key to KMH's premises. It also gives you access to, among other things:
- printers/copiers
- loan of equipment in the Service Centre
- loan of material in the library
You receive your access card in connections with the first time you register on course.
The access card serves as your personal identification card. It gives you access to:
- The university’s facilities.
- Printers/copiers.
- Equipment loans from Internal Services.
- The library's loan system.
You will receive your access card when you register for the first time. It will be processed faster if you have uploaded a profile photo in advance (see the section above).
Please remember to always wear your access card visibly while on campus.
Contract of liability and handling of personal data
As a student at KMH, your personal data will be processed in various contexts. These processes and registrations are mandatory and cannot be opted out of—they are simply part of being a student. Therefore, during registration, you will be required to agree to a contract of liability that covers three aspects:
- Use of KMH's IT resources.
- Handling of personal data in accordance with the Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
- Documentation and publication of artistic production related to your education.
Register in Ladok
Ladok is the administration system for higher education in Sweden. Registration in Ladok is mandatory and is a prerequisite for gaining access to facilities, login credentials and other necessary resources.
Once you have created your KMH account, you will gain access to LADOK after 24 hours. You can register through Ladok's student interface.
If you do not have a Bank-ID
If you do not have a Bank-ID, you will need to register in person at KMH by presenting valid identification.
If you are enrolled in a degree programme, this registration takes place on the first day of the introduction week.
If you are taking a course, you will register in connection with your first class session at the Valhallavägen Campus.
Not having a Bank-ID also means that you will not have early access to certain services, such as your schedule, the Canvas learning platform, and the practice room booking system.

Course information and timetable

Find your way around Campus
Campus consists of several buildings, all located in the corner of Valhallavägen/Lidingövägen.
Backstage, email and other communication channels
As a student at KMH you are expected to keep yourself continuously informed via mainly three channels: Backstage, your @student.kmh.se e-mail account, and the learning management system Moodle.
Backstage
Backstage is our open intranet for all students and staff at KMH. Visiting it once or twice a week will keep you updated about what's on at the campus. At the startpage all shortcuts to important tools and systems are available.
Mailing lists to students and employees are regularly used to distribute important information regarding i.e. changes in opening hours, interruptions in IT services, major concert projects, guest teacher visits, etc.
Via your e-mail account, you also receive important information specific to your department, your study programme or your subjects of study.
Besides via webmail, you can use your KMH e-mail account in a regular e-mail client/program (as long as it is compatible with SSL) on your smartphone, your PC, tablet, etc. Then use the following information:
- Account type: Exchange
- Username: your full email address
- Password: your password
The settings for servers for incoming and outgoing mail should filled in automatically when you have filled in this information.
Canvas and more
During most courses and projects you are involved in, virtual rooms in Canvas, our learning management system, will be used. There your teacher will make documents and information available, and communicate with the course participants. Sometimes specific groups in social media are used instead.
Analogue information and regular mail is distributed to your pigeon hole postbox.
Via our digital signage system, with screens in the foyer and the student's pentry, we distribute information about external guests at campus, as well as master classes, concerts, etc.

College Library – borrow sheet music, records and more
Here you find sheet music, books, magazines, discs, videos and reference books. The library also has a number of study places, places for listening to music, meeting rooms, a media room, and a quiet reading area. Printer, copier and scanner are located here.
Your health
Student health care ("Studenthälsan" in Swedish) is a part of the student service at KMH. At the Studenthälsan office, you can make appointments with a nurse or a psychologist.
