Singing Health in School – a Societal Concern

In 2021, a research group started a five-year project "Singing health in school – a societal concern" which investigates how daily singing activity in school can support children's development and the school's learning environment.

Project manager: Pia Bygdéus, The Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm
Co-applicants: KMH, Lund University and Åbo Akademi University in Finland. At KMH prof. Eva Bojner Horwitz participates.
Funder: Marcus and Amalia Wallenberg Memorial Foundation
Project period: 2021-2025

Purpose and research questions

Could daily singing activity support children's cognitive and language development, create study relaxation and contribute to social cohesion? It is a question that the research group has in focus.

Research that examines the link between music and health in school is important to build knowledge about the connection between music, learning and well-being and to understand the place of singing in the Swedish school.
