The courses and programmes in classical music at KMH aim to give you opportunities to develop your musicianship through individual tuition and ensemble playing. Our teachers are among the foremost musicians and pedagogues within their respective fields. Valhallavägen and Edsberg Manor campuses offer fantastic practice rooms and concert halls.

Classical Music – Edsberg
Deepen your instrumental studies at the Edsberg Campus, both individually and in chamber orchestra.
Early Music
Further develop in early music. You will deepen your artistic skills while strengthening your position in the job market, both in Sweden and internationally.
Concerts and festivals
The students regularly appear at concerts at KMH, for example, in connection with the project- and degree project examinations, ensemble courses and workshops. The students also run a chamber music festival, Classic Alive. Students can also present their own projects, including cross-over projects between departments.
Teachers in Classical Music
The teaching staff at KMH are professional musicians working as both orchestra musicians and freelance.
Ensembles in Classical Music
KMH:s students participate in both projects and recurring ensembles such as KMH Symphony Orchestra, KMH String Orchestra, Edsberg Chamber Orchestra, KMH Serenade Ensemble and KMH Big Band. We also work with various forms of internships in collaboration with nearby orchestras.
International collaborations
The classical music department is participating in various international networks and collaborations. In addition, KMH conducts international exchanges for teachers and students, for example Nordclassics, Crossing Keyboards and Percussion+.
The Act in Art network allows you as a student to participate in activities aimed at preparing you for your professional life together with other art students and teachers from colleges around the Nordics and Baltics.
KMH has many international students at the master’s level, and from the fall of 2023, we will also accept international students in some of our bachelor programmes.
Research
The research at the Department of Classical Music is primarily practice-based. As a student, you can participate in lectures, seminars and practical activities. The theses projects are also part of the research environment.
