Eurhythmics and Instrument 1

This course provides you with basic knowledge of how rhythmics can be used as a method within instrumental teaching for groups of children. The course is taught in English.

It is aimed at instrumental teachers and focuses on children’s motor development and how this influences instrumental performance.

The course prepares you to plan and carry out your own teaching with elements of rhythmics methodology in groups of children. It also equips you to justify your choice of exercises and repertoire. You will learn about:

  • Skills training in metre.
  • Rhythmics using equipment.
  • Solfège with solmisation.
  • Movement technique with a focus on ergonomics.
  • Children’s motor development.
  • Rhythmics methodology and didactics.
  • Teaching projects.

Teaching Format

Teaching takes place in groups, although assignments and presentations may be completed either individually or collaboratively. Active participation in lessons, seminars, and teaching projects is required.

Examination

The course is assessed through:

  • Completed assignments as part of the taught sessions.
  • A video recording and reflection on the teaching project.
  • A written reflective piece.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for the course, you must have:

  • General entry requirements for undergraduate study
  • Specific entry requirements amounting to 60 credits in music

If there are more qualified applicants than available places, selection is based on two-thirds grades and one-third results from the Swedish Scholastic Aptitude Test.
